This kit includes all the parts needed to modify a Tesla Rear SDU oil pump for reverse drive operation.

Includes:

  • Bolt-in replacement oil pickup canister

  • Modified "piston return" spring

  • Set screws

  • 6ml Permatex Seal+Lock

The pickup canister is available in either PETG or Nylon 12. Both materials are chemically compatible with ATF and are suitable for long-term submersion. The Nylon 12 offers substantially higher thermal margin, with a continuous-use temperature around 120°C (248°F). PETG softens above ~80°C (176°F) and is best suited to lower operating temperatures. PETG works well for mild daily driving; Nylon 12 is the better choice for high-performance builds, sustained loads, hot climates, or extended high-power operation.

Oil pickup installation procedure:

  1. Separate the OEM pickup canister from the splash shield via four T10 Torx screws

  2. Transfer the screen cartridge over to the new part

  3. Install the new pickup canister back onto the splash shield via the four T10 Torx screws

  4. Shorten the longer 1/2” output hose as needed to connect to the pickup passthrough tube output.

    1. Use the leftover hose to make a short piece to connect the pump output nozzle to the pickup passthrough tube input.

  5. Reinstall the pump and plastic splash shield assembly back into the drive unit
